New Car Warranty and Servicing
Do I need to have my vehicle serviced by a dealership?
If you have just purchased a new vehicle with a warranty or have a vehicle that is still under its warranty period do I have to get my car serviced by a dealership?
The short answer is NO.
The EU Block Exemption legislation which has been present for many years now is quite clear, and contradicts what some manufacturers will have you believe. All motorists have the right to take his/her car to any licensed garage or mechanic for car servicing outside the dealer network. And this will not invalidate your warranty. As long as the vehicle has been serviced using genuine parts and lubricants or those of equivalent quality to those originally fitted. Also, the vehicle manufacturer’s servicing schedule guidelines are adhered to.
This also applies to any maintenance and repair work required on your vehicle. “Basically, a good rule to remember is that if you’re paying for the work, you have the right to choose who does the work.”
For all vehicles that are outside of the original manufactures warranty this does not apply.
