Keeping your vehicle maintained during COVID-19
Battery
Try to avoid a flat battery by starting your vehicle at least twice a week for a minimum of 20 minutes a time as this will ensure the battery life is topped up.
Alternatively, use a battery conditioner or trickle charger as this will keep your battery continuously charged.
Top up all vital liquids
Checking the fluids under the bonnet and keeping them topped up is essential to keeping your car running smoothly. It’s always best to catch a problem early, rather than let it find you on the road.
Make sure to check the levels and quality (where you can) of your –
• Oil
• Fuel
• Windscreen wash
• Coolant
These are all vital for your vehicle to ensure once travel restrictions are lifted your vehicle is ready for use.
Cleaning your vehicle
Cleaning your car inside and out is now more important than ever. Most car washes across the County are shut but we do recommend getting out there and giving your car a once over. This will ensure your vehicle is kept clean and free of grime – keeping you and your passengers healthier.
If you live in a built-up area, your vehicle is more exposed to dust residue settling, bird droppings, acid rain, sap from trees, and those bug splatters all damage your vehicles paint work overtime.
These contaminants left on paintwork can cause scratching, staining of the paintwork and if left untreated can lead to rust damage. Cleaning your car once/twice a week will prolong the lifespan of your vehicles paintwork.
Take care of your tyres
Check your tyres are at the recommended tyre pressure, because if left for long periods of time they do loose pressure and will start to deflate. If you’ve left your car parked for a long period of time, make sure to visit a garage straight away to check.
By carrying out these checks – ensuring a healthy battery, have the correct tyre pressure, fluid levels topped up & giving your car a thorough clean could make all the difference when isolation measures start to change.
